Minister of Construction Trần Hồng Minh inspected the construction progress of Long Thành International Airport, praised the project’s advancements, and requested that all components be completed before the end of 2025.

A delegation from the Ministry of Construction, led by Minister Trần Hồng Minh, recently conducted an inspection of the construction progress of the Long Thành International Airport project.

Minister Trần Hồng Minh assessed that the Long Thành International Airport project has made significant progress, with component subprojects being implemented in line with the planned schedule. He commended both the investor and contractors.

However, the Minister emphasized that the investor and contractors must not be complacent and should maintain the pace of construction to complete all components by the end of December 2025, as required by the Prime Minister.

During the working session, the Department of Construction Economics and Investment Management reported on the accelerated progress across four main component subprojects of Long Thành Airport.

  • Component Project 1, which includes the headquarters of state management agencies, is mostly on schedule, with many items expected to be completed in Q4 this year.

  • Component Project 2, related to air traffic control works, also showed positive results. The control tower has reached a height of 107.93 out of 115 meters and is expected to be completed before September 30. Auxiliary facilities such as technical buildings, VIP areas, and power stations will have equipment installed from June 2025, with most remaining items set for completion by year-end.

  • Component Project 3, including the passenger terminal package, has mobilized over 5,000 workers and 1,000 machines, with construction reaching the fourth floor and a value of approximately VND 13,504 billion. The target is to complete construction by December 31, 2025, followed by equipment installation and system testing.

  • Runway No. 1 is ahead of schedule by three months and has successfully tested its lighting system. However, package 4.8 (internal airport roads) is delayed due to a lack of equipment, manpower, and difficult construction conditions. The investor, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), has been requested to review the critical path and address bottlenecks.

  • Component Project 4, including catering and aircraft maintenance facilities, currently has five subprojects underway. Catering project No. 2 broke ground on April 17, 2025; ground service projects No. 1 and No. 2, and Aircraft Maintenance Area No. 1 began in May 2025; Catering Project No. 1 started in June 2025. The investor has committed to basic completion before December 31, 2025, per the Prime Minister’s directive.

Regarding Aircraft Maintenance Hangar No. 4, under the Ministry of Construction’s guidance, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAA) has worked with the investor Vietnam Airlines JSC (VNA) to terminate the contract for Hangar No. 4 and proceed with contract procedures for Hangar No. 2.

Immediately after terminating the Hangar No. 4 contract with VAECO, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will initiate investor selection procedures for VietJet in accordance with the Prime Minister’s conclusions and Ministry of Construction directives.

At the meeting, contractors reported difficulties with material supply. As of May 12, only 1.18 million cubic meters of stone had been delivered to the site, while the 2025 demand is nearly 4.92 million cubic meters.

Thus, contractors requested that Đồng Nai provincial leaders facilitate the timely supply of soil and stone materials to meet the project’s construction schedule.

In addition, ACV representatives proposed an early expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thành Expressway to 10 lanes to ensure efficient operation and allow for the transfer of international flights from Tan Sơn Nhất International Airport to Long Thành International Airport.
